Tips for Travelers

We recommend the following to minimize vision related issues while traveling:

  • Switch to single use CLs to minimize hygiene issues in exotic locales. Additionally, you can avoid packing your lens care solution with single use CLs avoiding delays and fustrations at airports and on the road. Ask us how to get a supply of single use CLs.
  • Wear glasses while flying. The dry air in the plane's cabin will cause your eyes to feel dry and scratchy.
  • Bring lubricating eyedrops with you to use on long plane flights. The drops can also be used to rinse your eyes in a dusty or dirty environment.
  • Put your name and address on your eyeglass case so it can be returned to you in case of lost.
  • Bring antibiotic eyedrops with you in case you develop an infection while camping, hiking, swimming, hot-tubbing. Schedule a pre-trip eye examination with us for an ocular health ckeck and prescription for antibitotic meds for your emergency kit.

Tips for chronic dry eye

  • First we recommend an examination at least yearly to determine the status of your dry eye and result of current therapy.
  • Wear prescription glasses or sun glasses outdoors to minimize evaporative loss and to shield your eyes from the elements.
  • Use lubricating eyedrops to moisturize your eyes at least 6 to 8 times daily.
  • Consider taking a supplement like omega 3 fatty acid and flax seed oil to improve your own body's tear production.
  • Punctal plugs can be used to close off the natural tear outflow and thus increase the availibity of your own tears.
  • Eyelid infections and plugged eyelid glands can exacerbate your dry eye. These conditions need to be treated to improve your tear quality and flow.
  • Prescription eye meds like Restasis can improve your condition. In summary, please schedule an appointment with us to discuss your options. Rebate available for Restasis:

Tips to protect your eye at work

  • March has been named Workplace Eye Wellness Month by Prevent Blindness America, which reports that more than 2,000 people injure their eyes at work each day. About one in 10 injuries require one or more missed workdays to recover from. Of the total amount of work-related injuries, 10 to 20 percent will cause temporary or permanent vision loss. Experts believe the right eye protection could have lessened the severity, or even prevented, 90 percent of eye injury accidents. The most common causes of eye injuries are flying objects (bits of metal or glass); tools; particles; chemicals; and harmful radiation. We have solutions to your safety Rx need. Call us today for an appointment.
